Tokoname Ware Tenmoku Sakura Japanese Tea Pot
"Tenmoku glaze" is a glaze developed by Shoryu. It creates an expression that cannot be imitated anywhere else. Shoryu is particular about reducing the weight of the teapot and never compromises on making teapots.
Tokoname teapot is a beautiful craft with a deep artistic art. In Tokoname, craftsmen with excellent techniques were trained and cultivated. Each of these craftsmen has his own unique characteristics. Such characteristics were greatly reflected in the production of tea ware. The government recognizes their achievements and protects traditional cultural heritage and the title of "Traditional Craftsman" was established in 1973.
Furthermore, the Japan Traditional Craftsmen Association, after its establishment, had exercised its authority to manage and certify traditional craftsmen. There are presently 36 registered Tokoname ware traditional craftsmem who continue to explore the path of ceramic art and seeking further progress.
Tokoname is one of the six oldest kilns in Japan, located on the west coast of Chita Peninsula, in Aichi Prefecture. It has a long history in pottery making spanning a thousand year.
The Ceramesh strainer used in this teapot is very special and requires exemplary craftsmanship to produce. The precision of the tea strainer is what sets Tokoname yaki teapots from other teapots and it is this traditional technique that craftsmen are particularly proud of.
