The making of this teapot is no easy task. Black clay is thrown on the potter's wheel whose surface is covered with blue clay. The carving of plum blossoms is then done on the surface of the clay.
   
Aside from being easy to hold and having an easy-to-pour spout,  Tokoname-yaki teapot is also widely sought after because of its high quality and elaborate design of the tea strainer. The  unique Ceramesh tea strainer was created after years of development, during which craftsmen worked laboriously amid heated competition to come up with the best design. Tokoname-yaki teapot craftsmen thus very proud of their traditional skills.

Craftsmen and engravers have to work together to create a single masterpiece. The design of the teapot is determined after taking into account of the picture or design that would be placed on the teapot. The position and type of the engraving depend on the shape of the teapot. 

Tokoname is one of the six oldest kilns in Japan and is a pottery town steeped in history. Tokoname City is located on the west coast of the Chita Peninsula facing Ise Bay. Tokoname City is now a renowned pottery town with a thousand-year history.
