Tokoname x Kutani Japanese Tea Set "Chrysanthemum"
This set is a collaboration of Tokoname-yaki and Kutani-yaki.
The teapots are made by Mr. Hirotaka Umehara, a traditional craftsman of Tokoname ware, and hand-painted by Mr. Tsugimori Tamura, a master of Kutani ware painting.
Tokoname and Kutani are two pottery production centres in Japan that have preserved the tradition for many years.
The tea pot is made by the rokuro – the potter’s wheel – from red clay.
Its design is simple and light, and it is easy to use.
Various painting techniques such as blue grain, red grain, gold leaf, silver leaf, transfer overglaze painting are skilfully combined to create a balance with the shape of the tea pot.
A key feature of the Tokoname teapot is the Ceramesh strainer and craftsmen take significant in its production. Over the years craftsmen worked laboriously to create the high precision strainer that is truly one of its kind.
Tokoname is one of the six oldest kilns in Japan and is renowned a pottery town steeped in history, It is located on the west coast of the Chita Peninsula facing Ise Bay in Aichi Prefecture.
