The sharp shape and size of this piece is created by "Rokuro" drawing of red clay. "Rokuro-me" means the pattern of potter's wheel as you can see the fine horizontal lines on the surface of the teapot.
The reason why Tokoname-yaki teapots are so widely sought after is because of the precision of the tea strainer which craftsmen have worked hard to create. Ceramesh strainer is one of its kind and craftsmen take pride in this traditional technique specific to Tokoname yaki.
Tokoname is one of the six oldest kilns in Japan, with a long history spanning a thousand years, in pottery making. Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture, is located on the west coast of the Chita Peninsula facing Ise Bay.
